Data Platform

As the IoT venture studio Next Big Thing got mature they developed their own sensor platform. With Prometheus the sensor start-ups were able to easily monitor all sorts of things. This eventually led to the Machine Economy Platform. I was the leading designer, creating a clear and powerful interface for as many sensors as possible.
Impact
Managing sensors and data at scale demands precision. A multi-level hierarchy only works if the UI delivers a clear, intuitive navigational structure. Every interaction must be purposeful—ensuring users see exactly what they need, when they need it. By structuring information based on context and relevance, we empower users to solve complex tasks with speed and confidence.
Feature priorization
Knowing when to go from a MVP to a full feature rollout is key
In an agile environment it is important to always have the right information at hand. Information that helps us to overcome blind spots. Information based design means moving forward with a good set of reliable data. As a designer I am responsible to have answers and know how to prioritise features and views.
Quickly iterating on prototypes, with the users help
We wanted to know exactly how dense the information can get per view, before users feeling overwhelmed. Our goal was to create a professional environment, that people can easily learn and adapt. We have tested our prototypes with tech savvy and no-so-tech savvy folks.
A nested navigation hierarchy over different items and data
The information architecture has been development with scaleability in mind. The interface is able to quickly gain insights into project level, asset level and sensor level - with just using the main menu. The segmentation is a direct visualisation of the mental model of such projects. Starting from the birds eye view (projects) until the very last sensor data endpoint.
Making data telling stories
Learn and react
The machine economy platform enables users not only see data as they flow in, but to learn and react to it, when necessary. This is a key element to react in time.
Combine and determine
We even went further and explored novel ways to display sensor data. With a merge function of different sensor data we create more sense our of the one and zeros.
Continuous design development
As the platform improves, the number of users grows and with them the feature list. Identifying the important features and scaling with information based design decisions.
There is a lot more to learn
Many more things are here to discover. How to measure success of our product design, implementation support for engineering, etc
Let's talk : )
